President Friedrich Ebert Memorial, Heidelberg
“To preserve the memory of the work of Friedrich Ebert, first president of the Weimar Republic, and to make a contribution to the understanding of German history of his time” – this is the mission of the President Friedrich Ebert Memorial, a non-party foundation in Ebert’s birth town of Heidelberg.
There the exhibition "Friedrich Ebert - from Labour
Leader to President of the German Reich (1871 to 1925)"
which was modified in July 2007 offers an insight into
German history from the empire to the Weimar Republic.
The heart of the memorial is the birthplace of Friedrich Ebert. In addition to this, there is a library of just under 7000 volumes, magazines and brochures, as well as an archive with about 60 documents written by Ebert and some of his personal belongings.
Apart from exhibitions, memorial events, lectures and luncheon talks there are conferences and seminars that particularly attract teachers and history students. In addition, free guided tours and project days for pupils from any type of school and of any level of knowledge are offered. |
