Hauptstrasse 113 (formerly the hotel Badischer Hof)

The building used by the Volksbank on the corner of Hauptstrasse and Schiffgasse was once the hotel Badischer Hof. After opening in 1780, it was long regarded as the poshest place to stay in Heidelberg. Its guests included such prominent individuals as King Ludwig I of Bavaria. The Heidelberg Assembly was also held in the Badischer Hof on March 5, 1848 – one of the events that led to the election of German’s first parliament at St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt.
